根據大陸人行統計顯示，6月末大陸外匯儲備餘額為3.5兆美元。該數字也代表著大陸在外匯儲備方面仍高居世界第一，且其金額為排名第二的日本的近3倍之多；不過，大陸的外匯儲備總量雖然龐大，但實際上已經正走上「減速之路」。

鳳凰網引述建設銀行高級研究員趙慶明表示，今年第一季，大陸的外匯儲備增速有所反彈，增加1,300億美元，但第二季很快便縮減至600億美元左右。預計到年底時外匯儲備餘額將為3.5-3.6兆美元之間，處於增速回落狀態。

另外，有專家認為，有項因素導致大陸外匯儲備增速放緩，包括美國經濟回暖，使部分資本開始從新興市場回流美國；大陸對房地產產業和地方融資平台加強監管，使流入這些「熱點」領域國際資本減少；大陸同時具備增長動力及下行壓力，使國際資本流動方向發生變化；人民幣升值預期減弱，國際資本流入動力不足。
