紅襪菜鳥投手Brandon Workman，面對水手主投6局僅失1分，加上Jacoby Ellsbury、Dustin Pedroia以及Jarrod Saltalamacchia開轟助陣，終場紅襪以8比2擊敗水手，Workman也拿下大聯盟生涯首勝。
「他們對我有信心真的很棒，讓我上場先發，認為我能有所貢獻。」Workman表示。
Workman前2次先發成績為0勝1敗，失分都控制在2分以內，表現不差卻與勝投無緣，這場面對水手再度掛帥主投，雖然首局就失1分，但隊友馬上用打擊支援。
1局下，紅襪利用對方捕逸，以及老爹David Ortiz的安打，將比數反超為2比1。
來到2局下，紅襪攻勢再起，Ellsbury擊出陽春砲，Pedroia也揮出兩分打點全壘打，幫助紅襪這個半局靠著2發紅不讓，將領先擴大到5比1。
Pedroia在4局下半打回紅襪第6分，接著8局下，Saltalamacchia擊出個人本季第9轟，紅襪靠著Saltalamacchia的2分砲，已經取得8比1大幅優勢。
儘管水手在最後的反攻機會追回1分，但仍舊無力挽回頹勢，終場紅襪以8比2拿下勝利。
Workman這場主投6局，被敲出6支安打僅失1分，1保送、9三振，順利拿下大聯盟生涯首勝，賽後Pedroia更稱讚地說：「他(Workman)一點都不像菜鳥，他看起來是個成熟的傢伙。」
紅襪在3連戰搶得頭香，戰績64勝44敗在美聯東區暫居第2，距離第一名的光芒只有半場勝差。
